Join us in Madeira, the Pearl of the Atlantic, for a fitness retreat that blends fitness, adventure, relaxation, and coming together with new friends.  Whether you're looking for headspace, chasing PBs, craving adventure, or just love making new friends in breathtaking surroundings, this week will have you moving, laughing, and making memories to last forever.

Our base is a unique farmhouse estate with a mix of private and shared villas, and we’ve crafted for you the perfect mix of training, nature, and camaraderie to enjoy on this island of dramatic landscapes.

AccomModation

Our home for the week will be Casas da Levada, a stunning farm estate on the southwest side of the island, made up of a main house and individual cottages dotted around small organic gardens. With views to the Atlantic ocean, an outdoor pool and nature all around, this is the perfect setting to rest and reclaim your headspace. 

We have a selection of double and twin rooms available in the main house, as well as private double ensuite bedrooms in independent cottages. You can book your own room or share it with a friend or partner.  All houses have been lovingly refurbished to a very high standard so you can enjoy a blend of tradition and modern luxury.

ExplorinG

Expect to see different faces of the island! We’ll be hiking volcanic terrain to the island’s 1862m peak, diving, dipping into tidal pools, walking through forests and canyoning. All activities are led by expert local coaches. Below are a couple of them from our schedule.

Hiking the Vereda do Arieiro

We’ll hike one of the most spectacular trails of Madeira, connecting two of the highest peaks on the island through ridges, narrow paths carved into the rock, and panoramic views of peaks and valleys. At times we may find ourselves hiking above the clouds. The Pico-to-Pico hike is casually referred to as “Stairway to Heaven’ for good reason; the combination of challenging terrain, awe-inspiring views, and the sense of accomplishment upon completing the trail makes it one of the most rewarding outdoor activities on the island.  

Canyoning

Canyoning in Madeira is magical. You’ll slide down smooth, natural rock slides, rappel through misty waterfalls, jump into crystal-clear pools, and swim through narrow canyons surrounded by mossy cliffs and soft filtered sunlight. It’s the perfect way to feel awe, adrenaline and gratitude at the same time. In planning our routes, we assume that everyone is a beginner and we work with local expert English-speaking guides to keep you safe and enjoying yourself. You can expect to leave with a sense of achievement and stories to tell!

Diving

A Madeira Retreat would not be complete without a taste of diving on the island. We will partner with Cipreia Dive Club for an introductory dive on the south coast of the island that will stay in your memory for a long time!

Faja dos Padres

We’re excited for you to discover this dramatic narrow strip of land by the sea with turquoise, crystal-clear waters, underneath a 250-meter cliff, accessible only by cable car. This is the perfect spot for lunch, a refreshing dip in the sea, and a stroll around the unique mango, banana and avocado plantation protected by a unique microclimate.

Training

We have arranged gym sessions at Box Naval in Funchal, in group classes led by their excellent team of coaches.

Whether you’re new to training or have been at it for some time, you can expect to be coached with care. The workout will be tailored to each guest, so that we can all train together while each guest is challenged appropriately to their level.

If you’d rather follow your own training routine, Open Gym is also an option and you can specify this upon booking.

Meals

Expect hearty dishes made with local produce and fresh seafood, as well as delicious local wine. Dishes are based on traditional recipes while providing the nutritional quality and fuel you need for an active week. We will eat together around a table, whether in the comfort of our own accommodation or outside.

  • Breakfast: Our breakfasts will include organic produce straight from the farm e.g. freshly baked bread, eggs, seasonal fruits, as well as creamy yoghurts, granola, hot drinks.

  • Lunch: Each day we will have lunch at one of our favourite local restaurants, each offering a unique view of the island. On the Pico-to-Pico hike, we will have a packed lunch prepared for us the night before (and the victory snacks at the summit).

  • Dinner: Back at the farmhouse, we’ll share stories around a long table and eat delicious meals prepared by our private chef.  

Dietary Requirements: From vegan to gluten-free and everything in between, we cater to all dietary requirements.

Meal Costs: All meals are included in your package. Drinks are not included and we ask that guests pay for their own drinks separately.

Accommodation: Six nights stay at our private farm estate; with exclusive use of the house, outdoor pool, and grounds.

All Meals: All meals throughout your stay.

All Outdoor Activities: Pico-to-Pico hike, Canyoning, Diving, visit to Faja dos Padres and all other day trips.

Gym classes: All our CrossFit classes for the week are included, whether you choose to take part in the class or train independently

All transfers including group airport transfers: All group transfers are included. We have one airport transfer at 2pm on arrival day and 3pm on departure day. If you require a different airport transfer time, we can book this for you separately at an additional cost.

Private airport transfer: If you cannot make the group transfer, we can arrange a private transfer for you at an additional cost.

Not included in the price

Return travel to Funchal: Your return journey to and from Funchal Airport is not included, however we will send you detailed instructions on what flights to book.

Travel Insurance: We ask you to book this at your end with your provider of choice and send us confirmation of your insurance policy.

Drinks: All meals are included but we ask you to cover your own drinks individually during the week.

If you’d like to stay a few extra days on the island before or after our retreat, we can assist you with arrangements to make the most of your stay.

EARLY-BIRD pricing

Double Occupancy Double or Twin Bedroom: from £1,495 per person

Single Occupancy Double Bedroom : from £1,795 per person

You can book your space with a deposit of £250 and spread the balance across monthly instalments. The full balance is due one month prior to departure.

Once your deposit is made, you’ll receive our Terms and Conditions to sign, for your booking to be confirmed.

We require a minimum of 7 guests to go ahead and we do our best to fulfil our promise to you. In the unlikely event that we cannot go ahead, your payment will be refunded in full, or you can choose instead to move it to a different More Life Adventures retreat.

We have one group airport transfer at 2pm on arrival day and at 3pm on departure day. If the times don’t suit you, we can arrange a private transfer for you at an additional cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • If you would love an active break, away from the husltle and bustle, immersed in nature, exploring new places with like-minded people, this is for you.

    Guests on our trips range in age from late 20s to late 40s. They typically love to train, explore, and hang out in a light-hearted group environment.

  • All levels of fitness are welcome.

    Prior experience in functional fitness training or CrossFit is relevant but not at all required.

    If you have taken some time out of training, you’ll have a chance to move outdoors and an opportunity to get back into gym training if you like.

  • All activities are optional and you are very welcome to opt in or out as you like. If you’d like to opt out of some of the activities, our accommodation is an ideal place to spend some time relaxing, napping or reading a book.

  • We will advise you on which flights to book so that we all arrive at a similar time. We have airport transfers arranged to pick you up from the airport on arrival and drop you off there on your departure.

  • Everyone over the age of 21 is welcome on our trips and we have no upper age limit. To date have had guests in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s and everyone gels well.

  • Absolutely. We plan these trips specifically for our guests to gel easily. Get ready to make new friends!

  • Unless you book a shared room with a friend or partner we will not ask you to share a room.

    When booking a room to yourself please select the single occupancy option.

  • We work with an excellent chef to provide fresh, locally sourced, homemade and delicious food.

    We plan our meals with our activities in mind, so you are always well-fuelled. Portions are generous, so you are unlikely to be hungry between meals.

  • We cater for all allergies and dietary requirements. Just let us know on your booking form.

  • Absolutely we do, we simply do not include them in the price and we ask you to cover your drinks individually.
