What to expect
After an incredible retreat this summer, we're so excited to partner with Kayla Marie for another movement and adventure retreat in 2025!
Kayla is an adventure, fitness, and life enthusiast. She loves travelling and exploring the world through coaching group fitness retreats, where she can connect with guests through adventure and trying new things.
Kayla has been teaching yoga and group fitness classes for over 10 years. She opened her own CrossFit affiliate in 2018, CrossFit for the People, and has been coaching people to find their strengths and live their best lives through movement ever since. Here’s what to expect:
Train daily in a small group with workouts designed and coached by Kayla

During this week you’ll be encouraged to be brave, have fun, and be willing to try things you’ve never done before.
Life is too short to exist any way other than ALL IN!
Training
Kayla will begin each day with an intention-setting session followed by a yoga flow.
She will also lead daily small group training sessions throughout the retreat, focusing on good movement and making the body strong for the future.
Training sessions will take place in the morning, with optional 1:1 sessions in the afternoon focusing on flexibility and active recovery, which you can book as an add-on and tailor to what you are working on.
All of our gym sessions will take place at our private onsite gym which you’ll have exclusive use of.
Our fully-equipped gym includes what you can expect to find at a functional fitness space; an Eleiko rig with space for squats, pull-ups and muscle ups, gymnastics rings, ropes, Eleiko Sport barbells, training barbells and bumper plates, dumbbells, kettlebells, sandbags, medicine balls, jump ropes, bands, parallettes and 5x C2 Model D rowers.
Outside of the gym, you will also make use of the surrounding trails for running, as well as the beach and bay for swimming.
time in nature
There’s nothing quite as refreshing as spending time in nature. It challenges us, brings us together, and helps to balance out our training. We have a ton of opportunities to be in nature, some are structured and some are up to you.
Swimming
We’re located across the road from the beach so you can dip in the water at any time, whether for training or recovery. Further along the village there are more spots where you can snorkel and explore.
Trails
Outside the villa there are two mountain trails with views towards the sea and great options for a walk or hike.
Morning Yoga
Kayla will lead us in yoga flows to help us limber up and get set for a day of movement and exploring.
Paddleboarding
You can use our own SUPs to paddle out to the nearby island of Spinalonga, a short 15-minute paddle away. The sunrise is an incredible time to do it.
Gorge Hike
We will walk, climb and treat ourselves to views of the Cretan landscape. To cool down we will dip in the waterfall on the way down, and also in the sea before climbing back up.
Private boat trip
Our 4-hour private boat trip gives us a chance to explore nearby beaches and coves and enjoy diving off the boat into blue waters. We typically set off late morning and return in the afternoon, having had lunch on the boat.
Accommodation
Our summerhouse, also known as Fig Tree Villa, includes four houses laid out around a communal gym and courtyard.
Each house is laid out on two levels, with a twin/double bedroom, private bathroom and terrace on each level. A central lounge with an open plan kitchen is the hub of each house and here you can gather and relax with your housemates. Each house is laid out so you can take time to be alone or socialise with others as you please.
Three of the houses boast stunning sea views, while the fourth opens up to mountain and gym views.
The gym is right outside your front door and you can train there around-the-clock.
All houses have free and reliable wi-fi for those who need to stay on top of work while away.
ITINERARY

Pick up from Heraklion airport and drive to the villa. You’ll have time to settle in and explore, and then ease into our first light training session to start the week off strong, and then dinner together in Plaka.

For early-birds, take part in an optional sunrise SUP and workout before a rewarding big breakfast. If you want to lie in, please do so! Enjoy a relaxed hike or watersports if you want, and then some free time to either go for a swim or stretch out in the open gym, followed by a group dinner.

Let Kayla guide you through an energising workout to start the day followed by a filling breakfast. You can choose to take a trip to Spinalonga island, do some watersports, or just relax - it’s completely up to you. The gym is also open for you to use at your leisure. Then we join together for dinner.

Enjoy an early breakfast to prepare for a longer hike through a stunning gorge with a picturesque waterfall at the end. For the super-active, join for a sweaty workout session with Kayla; otherwise take this as your free time. Then experience some local delicacies and watch the sunset to finish your day.

Wake up for a sunrise SUP if you choose to (or not!) before a group workout and breakfast. We’ll then take you to one of our favourite wineries for the wine aficionados (optional, and we will need a minimum of four), or feel free to skip and stay around at the villa or beach. Dinner will be at a local handpicked restaurant which you’ll be sure to enjoy.

Kick-off day 5 with a team workout and breakfast, then all aboard for a day boat trip including lunch. Late afternoon is free to enjoy as you please, and as alway the gym is available for extra training or mobility, before a communal dinner at another MLA favourite restaurant nearby.

Last chance for an optional sunrise swim or SUP and watch the bay light up. After a workout and breakfast, it’s your free day to do as you wish. Your host will have plenty of recommendations if you need and there are plenty of activities to take part in, solo or with others from the group.

Take part in one last coached workout to send out the week and a farewell brunch, before taking you back to Heraklion airport, fully loaded with food and energy for your return.
Meals
We love sharing food together around a table. We aim to find fresh, locally sourced delicious food and we choose restaurants that do this very well. We’ll encourage you to try traditional Cretan dishes; specifically those that promote performance and recovery.
We have breakfast together every day. You have a choice to make your own breakfast or order it from our favourite spot. We eat breakfast after morning training.
Lunch will sometimes be eaten on location, e.g., on a hike or on a boat at sea. The rest of our days, we will pick a spot in the village. You can also make your own at home if you so wish. Each house has its own kitchen, where simple meals are easy to prepare.
For dinner, we head to one of our favourite local spots, a different one every night. There is a wealth of restaurants serving delicious local food in and around our area and we’re excited to show you them.
Portions in Crete are generous, so you are unlikely to be hungry between meals.
We have not included meals in the price. Generally, you can expect to spend between 25-35€ per person for dinner.

All levels of fitness are welcome.
Prior experience in functional fitness training or CrossFit is relevant but not at all required.
If you have taken some time out of training, you’ll have a chance to move outdoors and an opportunity to get back into gym training if you like.

Upon receiving your booking we will send you our group transfer times and suggested flight times. If you cannot make those, we can book a private transfer for you at an additional cost. You can reach out to us at any time before booking your flights so we can advise on the best option.

Everyone over the age of 21 is welcome on our trips and there is no upper age limit.
To date we have had guests in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s and everyone gels well.

Absolutely. Most of our guests book solo, some book with a friend or partner. We plan these trips specifically for everyone to gel easily. Get ready to make new friends!

Unless you specifically book to share a room with a friend or partner, we will not ask you to share a room with anyone.
If you are booking a room to yourself, please make sure you select the single occupancy option.

We will be training once or twice daily and would love you to join us. However, if you fancy an extended lie-in on occasion, you can opt out and train ‘open gym’ style at a time that suits you better, or simply have a rest day.

Absolutely, but we ask you to cover your own drinks. We love drinking in moderation but we discourage excess. (To keep you from nursing a hangover the next day!)
